Simple answer is yes.

To get an answer to the question ‘do seed warming mats work’ we used 2 seeds trays – top one used a seed warming mat

And the one below simply a seed tray.

Do seed warming mats work?

heat mat seeds

Both seed trays contain exactly the same type of seeds – Thai Basil on the left and Roma tomatoes on the right.

They were processed in exactly the same way, using the same soil and put in the trays 6 days ago.

The seedling heat mat used was the one pictured

This is the ideal seedling heat mat

  • Helps speed up the germination of seeds.
  • Water-proof and energy saving.
  • Helps get fast results before transplanting the seeds
  • Available from Amazon

All you do is simply plug it in (I use a timer and only have it on for 8 hours each day) and then when they start to grow just unplug it.

To use this mat all I tend to do is:

  • Soak the seeds in water for 3 to 6 hours
  • Fill a seed tray with the seeds.
  • Put it on top of the heat mat
  • And when they sprout (with about 3 to 4 leaves) move them either to a hydroponic or aquaponic system or a larger pot

Update 22 April

roma tomato

2 weeks after sowing the seeds I’ve had to move the Roma Tomatoes.

They were simply getting to large for the seeds trays.

They are now in pots – under a grow light bars on a shelf in the kitchen.

In addition I’ve also put some in pots in the back garden.
