A key item in many recipes Thai Basil has a unique flavour.

And is great for making tea.

The reason is that in addition to the standard basil flavours it also has a strong liquorice and anise flavour that gives foods and tea a unique aroma.

The recipe below combines this lovely flavour with lemon and honey to make a drink you will want to make time and time gain.

2 items to focus on:

Item 1 – use fresh Thai Basil

1a – because of the flavour

Thai basil has a unique flavour and it is especially good when using fresh.

Fresh Thai Basil is available in many shops

But it’s also very easy to grow at home from seed.

1b because of the health benefits

According to the webmd site Thai Basil (like all basils) has many vitamins and minerals (such a vitamin A for healthy eyes and skin, and vitamin K for bone health), as well as antioxidants, etc.

However it is very important to realise that many of the health benefits come from these antioxidants, which mostly disappear during the drying process, which is why growing fresh basil is such a good idea.

Item – Jug or cafetiere and/or tea infuser?

I prefer using a cafetiere as it’s easy to use – simply push down the filter when you want to use it.

An alternative option is to use a jug or wide bottle and a tea infuser. Put the Thai basil leaves in the infuser and add the lemon and honey later.

For example the one pictured on the right is easy to use, and can also use it to make an iced Thai basil tea, fruit drinks, etc.
