Notes

This is the simple way to make the mint lemonade.
The other option is to make a mint lemonade syrup – see instructions further up the page for more info.

Peppermint lemonade cocktail.

The method above is great for a refreshing drink.

But if you want to make a cocktail a syrup is far easier.

To make mint lemonade syrup all you do is put 200 ml water and sugar into a saucepan. Add the mint leaves and bring to the boil. Simmer until all the sugar is dissolved.

Pour through a sieve into a bottle or jug. And let chill until cold. (put in a fridge when chilled to room temperature)

If you want to use the syrup to make the mint lemonade then all you do is add ice into a large jug, then pour in the lemon juice, mint syrup and sparkling water.

On the other hand to use it in a cocktail add the syrup, ice and other ingredients (like Vodka or Rum) into a cocktail shaker and shake. You might want to add some water to make it more liquid – easy option is to experiment.

Either way the recipes are dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian.

There are over 3000 types of mint

Fresh mint leaves add real flavour to many recipes, like the homemade mint lemonade recipe.

However….

There are 13 to 24 different species of mint plants, with many hybrids in each species.

For example there are over 3000 plants with different mint names, each will have their own flavour and taste.

Buy mint or grow your own?

You can buy Fresh Mint in many shops (for example you can buy it on Amazon)

But it’s also very easy to grow at home, and you can grow types you will struggle to find in most supermarkets.

If you want to grow your own mint at home then all you need is a plug plant and a pot.

But do note the different mint types all have a unique flavour (Orange mint, Spearmint, Apple Mint, etc.). For a few ideas follow the links below.

The country recipe challenge.

I originally found this recipe when researching recipes in the United Arab Emirates. As part of the country recipe challenge, where I am trying to find 1 recipe from each country in the world

The cuisine in UAE is very tasty with a very international background

There are a lot of meat dishes, containing lamb and mutton. But the street food in particular is very enjoyable – for example Shawarma contains thin slices of meat that have been roasted, spiced and stacked in a wrap.

Similarly tea drinks like Karak Chai (Qarak) contains tea, milk and items like ginger.

But I just like the mint lemonade as a very easy to make drink.

The easiest way to keep updated is to follow me on either my Instagram or Facebook page

Have you made the recipe?

Would love to hear what you thought of it
